CSCL 2017 will offer a half-day workshop on June 19, 2017 that focuses on mentoring for writing publishable research reports in Learning Sciences.
Mentors will be drawn from among the editors of the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS) journals, the International Journal of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (ijCSCL), and The Journal of the Learning Sciences (JLS).
As editors, we recognize a need to build capacity within our community for writing and to support the growth of a writing culture in ISLS. The goal is to develop a mentoring relationship around writing that can extend beyond the workshop. We expect up to 20 participants who will work with 10 mentors in one-on-one and triad activities, as well as whole-group discussions with peers and journal editors. The workshop will end with an Editors’ Panel that is open to the entire membership. This will be followed immediately by the New Members’ Workshop, when the traditional editor’s panel will be held. All workshop participants are invited to attend that as well.
Preference will be given to applicants who (1) are actively involved in writing or revision a paper for the International Journal of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning, or The Journal of the Learning Sciences; (2) indicate that they are from an underrepresented region of the world and/or have limited access to LS mentorship; and (3) those who have completed a graduate degree.
